Mr. Kirkwood serves as General Counsel of Vida’s subsidiary, Magna Life Settlements, and as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Vida. Prior to joining Magna, Mr. Kirkwood served as the EVP, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary for the nation’s largest direct purchaser of consumer future cash flows backed by insurance company obligations. He was responsible for the company’s legal, compliance and regulatory matters including handling a broad range of M&A and capital markets transactions, risk analysis matters, compliance and corporate governance items. In addition, he led the legal and compliance efforts taking the company through its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange, and he managed the ongoing SEC, NYSE and OTC marketplace reporting and compliance requirements. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kirkwood provided legal and regulatory counsel and strategic guidance for a consumer specialty finance company addressing needs relating to purchasing of future cash flows and the company’s life settlement and pre-settlement funding business units. Mr. Kirkwood graduated from Union College in 1992 and from Albany Law School in 1995.
R. Scott Harris

With 20-years of marketing experience, Scott is CMO at Magna Life Settlements, a multi-billion dollar alternative asset manager specializing in non-correlated investments. Scott is also Co-Founder of Social Factor, a national social media strategy & execution agency with a proprietary ROI-centric approach to social.
As volunteer Board Chairman of non-profit Young Life Greater Austin, Scott’s leadership has seen the relationship-based mentor program grow 6X to 50 schools, 1000 volunteer leaders, 35 staff, 2000 campers alongside thousands of Austin adolescents.
Previously, as PGi VP Sales & Marketing, Scott built annual sales and lead revenue for the Global Online channel while directing 50+ millennials in four continents. Earlier, Scott served as Editor-in-Chief for Dell.com/Enterprise, founder/CEO of interactive dialogue software co. (acquired by SalesFusion), Product Director at Austin Ventures, and Sales/Engineer at Merck. He has a BS Engineering and MBA from The University of Texas at Austin.
Dan Young, CLU, ChFC
Mr. Young is President at Magna Life Settlements. In addition to his role at Magna Life Settlements, Mr. Young is an adjunct professor of Regulatory Law at the University of Texas Law School and Chairman of the Board of the Institutional Longevity Markets Association (ILMA).
Previously, Mr. Young was Senior Managing Director and Head of Asset Management at Vida Capital. Mr. Young was President & CEO of New York Life’s Broker-dealer network and New York Life’s Registered Investment Adviser. He began his career as a clerk on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals before practicing at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. Mr. Young holds multiple insurance designations including Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Advisor for Senior Living (CASL). Mr. Young formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Austin Habitat for Humanity. He graduated from Stanford University with Honors and Distinction in 1989 and from the University of Chicago Law School with Honors in 1992.
Joseph McCray, JD
Joey joined Magna Life Settlements in 2014. As a member of Magna’s closing team, he works with brokers and funders and performs due diligence on cases originated by Magna. Joey began his life settlement career in 2007 with Advanced Settlements, serving as National Trading Director from 2008 until March of 2014. As National Trading Director, Joey used his unique approach to provider relations which resulted in the sale of over $2 billion of death benefit in that time period. As Vice President of Operations at Asset Life Settlements, Joey handled the contracts process, firm licensing, and client communications. However, his main role was to achieve the highest possible offer for policy owners in the life settlement marketplace.
A graduate of the University of Central Florida, Joseph then earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
Nate joined Magna Life Settlements in June of 2011. At Magna, he manages the origination of new policies and has helped grow the firm into a leading life settlement provider.
After completing an internship with Vida, the parent company, he joined the firm as an analyst on the Portfolio Management Team, specializing in financial modeling and valuation. Currently, he assists in the management and optimization of the Vida managed portfolios and is integral in the valuation and asset acquisition process.
Nate graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2011 with a BBA in finance and marketing.
Clay has been with Magna Life Settlements since 2009, and has over ten years of comprehensive life settlement experience. He was the Portfolio Manager for Rust Group and Life Assets Trust S.A., from 2007–2010 where he facilitated the acquisition, warehousing, and sales for a $725 million life settlement portfolio. Clay has built up a vast amount of knowledge in the longevity and mortality marketplace evaluating, pricing, and analyzing risk of over $20 billion in face value. Prior to working in life settlements, Clay co-founded and served as managing partner of Pursue Energy Services, a physical and financial energy risk management consultant firm. In 2007, Clay became the Senior Analyst for Osage Energy Fund, L.P., a hedge fund focused on investing in energy-related master limited partnerships (MLP) and Canadian trusts (CT).
Clay graduated from Baylor University with a BBA in Business Entrepreneurship and Corporate Communications and earned an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Acton School of Business.
