President

Mr. Young is President at Magna Life Settlements. In addition to his role at Magna Life Settlements, Mr. Young is an adjunct professor of Regulatory Law at the University of Texas Law School and Chairman of the Board of the Institutional Longevity Markets Association (ILMA).

Previously, Mr. Young was Senior Managing Director and Head of Asset Management at Vida Capital. Mr. Young was President & CEO of New York Life’s Broker-dealer network and New York Life’s Registered Investment Adviser. He began his career as a clerk on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals before practicing at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. Mr. Young holds multiple insurance designations including Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Advisor for Senior Living (CASL). Mr. Young formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Austin Habitat for Humanity. He graduated from Stanford University with Honors and Distinction in 1989 and from the University of Chicago Law School with Honors in 1992.

Clay has been with Magna Life Settlements since 2009, and has over ten years of comprehensive life settlement experience.  He was the Portfolio Manager for Rust Group and Life Assets Trust S.A., from 2007–2010 where he facilitated the acquisition, warehousing, and sales for a $725 million life settlement portfolio.  Clay has built up a vast amount of knowledge in the longevity and mortality marketplace evaluating, pricing, and analyzing risk of over $20 billion in face value. Prior to working in life settlements, Clay co-founded and served as managing partner of Pursue Energy Services, a physical and financial energy risk management consultant firm. In 2007, Clay became the Senior Analyst for Osage Energy Fund, L.P., a hedge fund focused on investing in energy-related master limited partnerships (MLP) and Canadian trusts (CT).

Clay graduated from Baylor University with a BBA in Business Entrepreneurship and Corporate Communications and earned an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Acton School of Business.

General Counsel

Mr. Kirkwood serves as General Counsel of Vida’s subsidiary, Magna Life Settlements, and as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Vida.  Prior to joining Magna, Mr. Kirkwood served as the EVP, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary for the nation’s largest direct purchaser of consumer future cash flows backed by insurance company obligations.  He was responsible for the company’s legal, compliance and regulatory matters including handling a broad range of M&A and capital markets transactions, risk analysis matters, compliance and corporate governance items. In addition, he led the legal and compliance efforts taking the company through its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange, and he managed the ongoing SEC, NYSE and OTC marketplace reporting and compliance requirements.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Kirkwood provided legal and regulatory counsel and strategic guidance for a consumer specialty finance company addressing needs relating to purchasing of future cash flows and the company’s life settlement and pre-settlement funding business units. Mr. Kirkwood graduated from Union College in 1992 and from Albany Law School in 1995.

Nate joined Magna Life Settlements in June of 2011. At Magna, he manages the origination of new policies and has helped grow the firm into a leading life settlement provider.

After completing an internship with Vida, the parent company, he joined the firm as an analyst on the Portfolio Management Team, specializing in financial modeling and valuation. Currently, he assists in the management and optimization of the Vida managed portfolios and is integral in the valuation and asset acquisition process.

Nate graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2011 with a BBA in finance and marketing.

She has six years of experience working as a paralegal in the areas of personal injury and healthcare law, and she obtained her paralegal diploma from NYU in New York City. She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Texas State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.

Ryan works as a Senior Closing Associate and joined the firm in 2015. He performs due diligence and helps to analyze the risk associated with new acquisitions.  Before joining Magna, Ryan worked as an enforcement attorney for the Railroad Commission of Texas on oil and gas regulatory cases. Ryan also served in the United States Army as a combat engineer officer, reaching the rank of First Lieutenant and deploying to Baghdad, Iraq in 2009. He graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2013 and earned a degree from Southwestern University in 2004.

Prior to joining Magna Life Settlements, Snow worked with a previous provider where she led seminars and webinars educating agents, financial professionals and consumers about retirement funding options, specifically focusing on life settlements, long-term care and reverse mortgages. Snow currently holds a GA Life, Accident and Health license, and is pursuing her CLU designation and Series 7 license.

Krystal has worked in life insurance for almost 5 years and holds the position as Associate, Case Administration for the Magna team. She started as a Senior Processing Specialist processing loans, surrenders, policy changes and conversions, pre-claims, benefit verification and a host of other duties (including assisting underwriting). She also held the role of Senior Claims Examiner/Adjuster, working with the legal team to combat fraud, analyze claims and legal documentation in order to pay/reject and act as company liaison for the claims department (as well as continuing my duties from the aforementioned position).

She was also chosen as a member of the Customer Service Advisory Council, a council chosen by the VP of the company to help encourage effective process changes, cross-train multiple departments and work closely with our business analysts and VP to ensure smooth transitions.

Margie joined Magna Life Settlements in 2014 as a Service Analyst. She is Magna’s point person for staying in touch with insured and designated contacts, maintaining up-to-date information and facilitating the claims process. Margie began her career in structured settlements in 2012. As a Post Policy Admin and Case Managers Assistant for The James Street Group, she gained extensive experience in designing and presenting structured settlement proposals as well as drafting and reviewing settlement documents for various workers comp and liability cases. She would assist brokers, plaintiff attorneys and their clients through the process of setting fixed annuities.

Before her time at TJSG, Margie served as an Office Manager and Agent Assistant for a Farmers Insurance Agency.  Prior to joining Farmers Insurance, Margie served as a Premium Accounting Clerk at Brokers National Life Assurance Company.

Nate joined Magna Life Settlements in June of 2011. At Magna, he manages the origination of new policies and has helped grow the firm into a leading life settlement provider.

After completing an internship with Vida, the parent company, he joined the firm as an analyst on the Portfolio Management Team, specializing in financial modeling and valuation. Currently, he assists in the management and optimization of the Vida managed portfolios and is integral in the valuation and asset acquisition process.

Nate graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2011 with a BBA in finance and marketing.

Joey joined Magna Life Settlements in 2014. As a member of Magna’s closing team, he works with brokers and funders and performs due diligence on cases originated by Magna. Joey began his life settlement career in 2007 with Advanced Settlements, serving as National Trading Director from 2008 until March of 2014. As National Trading Director, Joey used his unique approach to provider relations which resulted in the sale of over $2 billion of death benefit in that time period. As Vice President of Operations at Asset Life Settlements, Joey handled the contracts process, firm licensing, and client communications. However, his main role was to achieve the highest possible offer for policy owners in the life settlement marketplace.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, Joseph then earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Ms. Ghorashi joined Magna Life Settlements in 2017 and works as a Closing Analyst. As part of the Closing Team, Ms. Ghorashi generates secondary contracts, liaises with insurance companies, performs due diligence, and helps analyze the risk associated with new acquisitions. She has six years of experience working as a paralegal in the areas of personal injury and healthcare law, and she obtained her paralegal diploma from NYU in New York City. She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Texas State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.

She performs due diligence, reviews life-contingent assets, and analyzes the risk associated with tertiary acquisitions.  Before joining Magna, Lori worked as a (MCE) Financial Advisor, (MLO) National Mortgage Lender, and a Licensed Life, Accident, Health and HMO Insurance Agent while working toward her PhD.

Casey joined Magna Life Settlements in January of 2019. As Senior Associate, Acquisition, he oversees broker-sourced life settlement cases, playing an integral role in Magna’s mission to grow its secondary market. Casey previously served as the Portfolio Manager for Magnify Capital LLC, a private investment management fund specializing in Single Family Homes. Additionally, he served in the United States Air Force for 6 years as a Contracting Officer, reaching the rank of Captain. Casey graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2012 and earned his MBA from Baylor University.

Ryan also served in the United States Army as a combat engineer officer, reaching the rank of First Lieutenant and deploying to Baghdad, Iraq in 2009. He graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2013 and earned a degree from Southwestern University in 2004.

Prior to joining Magna Life Settlements, Snow worked with a previous provider where she led seminars and webinars educating agents, financial professionals and consumers about retirement funding options, specifically focusing on life settlements, long-term care and reverse mortgages. Snow currently holds a GA Life, Accident and Health license, and is pursuing her CLU designation and Series 7 license.

Ms. Robison is the Director of Human Resources at Magna and is responsible for Human Resource strategic direction, support, and counsel to the executive team, management team and employees regarding all human resource functions since joining the firm in 2017. Prior to joining Magna, Ms. Robison served as Director, Human Resources for PMB Helin Donovan, LLP, where she managed the Human Resource function of a full-service accounting firm serving non-profits, private companies, SEC companies, and individuals with audit and tax services.  Prior thereto, Ms. Robison was the Director, Human Resources at Allegiance, Inc., where she was responsible for Human Resources for a software company that provided Voice-of-the Customer and Enterprise Feedback Management services for organizations. Additionally,   Ms. Robison has served in HR leadership roles in financial services, technology, and software industries. Ms. Robison earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas State University in 1997.

Margie joined Magna Life Settlements in 2014 as a Service Analyst. She is Magna’s point person for staying in touch with insured and designated contacts, maintaining up-to-date information and facilitating the claims process. Margie began her career in structured settlements in 2012. As a Post Policy Admin and Case Managers Assistant for The James Street Group, she gained extensive experience in designing and presenting structured settlement proposals as well as drafting and reviewing settlement documents for various workers comp and liability cases. She would assist brokers, plaintiff attorneys and their clients through the process of setting fixed annuities.

Before her time at TJSG, Margie served as an Office Manager and Agent Assistant for a Farmers Insurance Agency.  Prior to joining Farmers Insurance, Margie served as a Premium Accounting Clerk at Brokers National Life Assurance Company.
