Vlad Sorokulov
Mr. Sorokulov serves as President of Obra’s subsidiary, Magna Life Settlements, and is a Managing Director of Portfolio Management and Pricing of Obra Capital. Vlad brings over 20 years of experience in insurance and longevity investing. Prior to joining Obra, Vlad served as a Principal at Jade Mountain Partners, where he oversaw the valuation process of the portfolios exceeding $1 billion in assets under management. His role involved designing advanced financial models, developing rigorous buying risk criteria, and implementing sophisticated pricing strategies. Vlad was also deeply engaged in client relations, deal origination, and risk management. Mr. Sorokulov’s previous roles include serving as an Independent Advisor, where he managed life settlement portfolios with over $11 billion in death benefits, the former Marinoff Advisory Services, where he was responsible for ongoing pricing and servicing of over $1 billion of life settlements, and as the Director of Quantitative Services at BAC Structured Life Group. His career began in Ukraine, where he led actuarial departments and developed insurance products and strategies for p&c and life insurance companies.
Mr. Sorokulov holds an MBA in finance from Auburn University in Alabama and an M.S. in Statistics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in Ukraine.

Stephen Kirkwood
Mr. Kirkwood serves as General Counsel of Obra’s subsidiary, Magna Life Settlements, and is a Senior Managing Director and the Chief Legal Officer & Chief Compliance Officer of Obra Capital. Prior to joining Obra in 2019, Mr. Kirkwood served as the EVP, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, and Corporate Secretary for the nation’s largest direct purchaser of consumer future cash flows backed by insurance company obligations. He was responsible for the company’s legal, compliance, and regulatory matters, including handling a broad range of M&A and capital markets transactions, risk analysis matters, compliance, and corporate governance items. In addition, he led the legal and compliance efforts taking the company through its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange, and he managed the ongoing SEC, NYSE, and OTC marketplace reporting and compliance requirements. Mr. Kirkwood graduated from Union College in 1992 and Albany Law School in 1995.

Brett Lipsky, CFA
Mr. Lipsky serves as Treasurer of Obra’s subsidiary, Magna Life Settlements, and is the Chief Financial Officer of Obra Capital. He is also a Senior Managing Director and a member of the firm’s Executive Team. Prior to joining Obra in 2023, Mr. Lipsky was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for Saluda Grade. Before that he spent 14 years at KLS Diversified Asset Management, serving ultimately as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. At KLS, Mr. Lipsky was a member of the Investment Committee, Risk Committee and led the Finance and Control Group in building out their infrastructure and reporting capabilities. Earlier in his career, Mr. Lipsky held various roles at Centerlight Capital Management LLC and Archeus Capital Management LLC. He began his career in Transaction Advisory Services at Ernst & Young LLP. Mr. Lipsky earned a BBA, with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting, in 2003 from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is a CFA charter holder and a current member of NYSSA.

Jessica Dangson
Jessica brings more than 10 years of experience in the life settlements industry to Magna Life, where she currently holds a dual role in secondary trading and pricing. She specializes in analyzing the risk, costs, and benefits of life insurance policies in the secondary market while developing and maintaining relationships with brokers throughout the settlement process.
Jessica joined our team in July of 2023 after working for 2 years as Associate of Pricing and Optimization at Obra Capital, the parent company. Prior to joining Obra, she worked for 9 years at GWG, serving as Policy Acquisition Manager and Manager of the Pricing & Optimization team. Jessica graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Biology.
